What appears on your website
A part-by-part map of where your website's content comes from — what appears automatically once you fill it in, and what you opt in item by item (public events, announcements, your team, bulletins, your own pages, giving). It explains why something is or isn't showing.
Your website is assembled from content you already manage elsewhere in Psalmly (see Your website for the big picture). This guide is the map: for each part of the site, where its content comes from, and — crucially — whether it appears automatically or only when you opt it in. That one distinction explains almost every "why isn't this showing?" question.
Two kinds of content
- Always-on — once you fill it in, it appears. These are the parts that describe your church itself: your welcome and your story, service times, your Visit page, photos, and your contact details. Nothing to switch on.
- Opt-in — these come from places where not everything is meant to be public, so you choose which items go out: each event, each announcement, each team member, each bulletin, each page you add, and your giving funds.
When something you expect isn't on your website, it's almost always an opt-in item that hasn't been switched on — or content that's still a draft.
Welcome and story — always-on
Your Tagline and Welcome paragraph (in Your website, on Home, under Welcome) sit at the top of your home page. The tagline also appears beside your church's name across your site; the welcome paragraph shows on your home page only.
Your story (on About) opens your About page, and introduces you on your home page too. Write these for a stranger: who you are, what a visitor can expect, what you believe in a sentence or two. On a plan with the AI assistant, the Write with AI helper on those fields can get you a first draft — it turns into Improve with AI once there's text there.
Service times — always-on
Everything in Service times (under Church details in Your website) appears on your site — on your home page, your Visit page and your Contact page. Keep this current — for many visitors it's the single most important thing on your website.
Your Visit page — always-on
Visit in Your website holds What to expect: up to six short cards (think "Come as you are", "About an hour", "Kids welcome"), plus optional Parking and Accessibility notes that show only when you switch them on. It's written for first-timers deciding whether to come, and anything you fill in shows automatically — on your Visit page, with the first few card titles also in the invitation near the bottom of your home page.
Photos — always-on
Your Cover photo (on Home, under Photos) is the big photo near the top of your home page. It's also used on your giving page, your join link and the preview people see when your site is shared. More photos — up to six — show together on your home page, and your look decides where. For adding, ordering, framing and describing them, see Your website.
Contact details — always-on
Your email, phone and links (from Phone, email & links) and your address (from Address & time zone), both under Church details, are shown publicly on your website — your Contact page, for one, lists them beside the contact form. See The contact form and your inbox.
Events — opt-in per event
Your website shows upcoming events that you've marked Public — and only those:
- In the event editor, an event's Visibility is either Public or Internal. Only Public events reach your website; Internal ones are visible to your admins only — members don't see them on web or mobile either.
- Drafts never show — an event has to be published as well as Public.
- Past events drop off automatically — your website always shows what's still to come.
So if an event isn't appearing, check that it's published and set to Public. For the full event flow, see Scheduling events.
News — opt-in per announcement
Announcements are members-first, so they only reach your website when you say so:
- In the announcement composer there's a Show on your website switch. Leave it off and the announcement goes to members only; turn it on and it also appears on your website's News page.
- Only sent, church-wide announcements can go on your website — a group announcement always stays private (the switch is disabled for those).
See Sending announcements for where that switch lives.
Our team — you write it, and you publish it
The "Our team" section comes from the Team page, under Website in the sidebar. (On Your website, About shows how many people are on your About page, with a row that takes you there.) It's the one part of your website you write yourself: the name, title, short bio and photo are all yours to set, and you choose the order people appear in.
Two things decide whether someone shows:
- You've published them. Adding someone doesn't put them on the internet — publishing does, and it's a separate step. Anyone not published sits under Not on your website on the Team page.
- They haven't hidden themselves. Anyone with a Psalmly account can take themselves off from Church websites in their own account settings. That's theirs, not yours — if someone has hidden themselves, their row says so, and only they can put it back.
People don't need a Psalmly account to appear. A long-serving deacon, a pastor emeritus, a volunteer who never wanted the app — you can add any of them by typing a name. (They also have no way to remove themselves, so ask before you publish someone who can't.)
A card with just a name and no photo or bio is normal and looks deliberate — plenty of churches run that way. See Managing your church directory for how this differs from the Directory.
Bulletins — opt-in per bulletin
A bulletin reaches your website only when it's published and you've turned on Also on our website; otherwise it stays in the app for members. Prayer requests are always left off the public copy. See Publishing and sharing a bulletin.
Your own pages — opt-in per page
Pages you add under Pages join your site's menu once you switch them from Draft to Published. See Adding your own pages.
Giving — appears once giving is live
Your website shows a Give button and your funds once two things are true:
- Your church has online giving set up — your Stripe connection is active and card payments are enabled on it (see Setting up online giving).
- You have at least one visible giving fund.
When both hold, visitors can give straight from your website — no account needed. Until then, the Give row in Your website says No Give button yet. For how giving from your website works and where those gifts land, see Receiving gifts on your website.
When something isn't showing
Run down this short list:
- Is your website published? The tag at the top of Your website says Live or Draft.
- For an event, is it published and set to Public? For an announcement, was it sent with Show on your website turned on?
- For a team member, have you published them on the Team page — and have they not hidden themselves?
- For giving, is your Stripe connection active and a fund visible?
- Is a page missing from your menu? Your menu only offers a page once there's something on it. In Your website, the Visit, Events, Bulletins and News rows say Not in your menu yet while they're left out.
For the whole picture, click Show all on the line at the top of Your website — 9 of 12 parts of your site have something in them, say. It lists every part your site can show and what's in each right now, so it's the quickest place to confirm what's there and jump to whatever's missing.
