Giving by person
What each person gave between any two dates — members, people without an account, and people who gave on your website — with a giving page for each person, a statement for one person or all at once, a CSV for your accountant, and how to match gifts to the right person when a name was typed two ways.
Your treasurer's most common questions are about people: What did Jane give this year? What has everyone given since January? Can we print everyone's statements? Giving by person answers them on one page — every giver, what they gave between the dates you choose, and a statement for any of them. It works the same whether your people give in the app, by check in the plate, or on your website, and it's free on every plan.
Choose Giving by person in the sidebar, under Giving & finances — or By person, next to the Recent gifts heading on your Giving page. Like the Giving page, it's limited to lead admins and admins a lead has given finance access.
Choosing the dates
At the top, pick the dates you want: This year to date (where it opens), Last year, This month, Last month, or Custom dates. A fiscal year is just a custom range — July 1 to June 30, say — so there's no fiscal-year setting to configure. Dates follow your church's own calendar, not the computer you're using.
Right under the controls, Psalmly states the dates, how many people are on the list, and the total given — for example, Jan 1 – Sep 28, 2026 · 56 people · $78,960.00 given. That total is your church's giving for those dates.
Reading the list
The list runs A–Z by last name, the way a paper church directory reads. Psalmly works out the last name only to sort — "John & Mary Smith" files under S — and never changes or saves anything about a name. If someone lands under an unexpected letter, search still finds them. You can also sort by Given.
Each row shows the person's gifts in the range, what they gave, and their last gift. A few rows carry a small tag:
- No account — someone on your roster who doesn't use the app. See People without an account.
- Website — gifts made on your church's website that aren't on anyone yet, one row per email address, with the name the giver typed.
- Typed name — cash or check gifts recorded under a typed name instead of a person.
- Archived — a roster person you've archived. Their giving is still here.
- Left the church — a member who is no longer in your directory. Psalmly doesn't know when they left, so it never shows a date.
Members carry no tag at all.
Given counts the way a giving statement does: each gift's amount, less anything refunded. It includes any processing fees a giver chose to cover, so for online gifts it can run a little higher than the "money in" figure on your Finances page.
Every gift is on exactly one line
After the people come three lines that aren't people:
- Anonymous — gifts marked anonymous, by the giver or by whoever recorded them. They stay off named rows, as promised when the gift was given.
- Loose plate cash — cash from the plate with no giver.
- Total — every gift in your dates.
Every gift sits on exactly one line, so the rows, Anonymous and Loose plate cash always add up to the Total. On a computer these three lines stay pinned to the bottom of the screen as you scroll.
When you search, the list narrows to matching names or emails and the three lines step aside — a total under two rows would read as their total. They come back when you clear the search.
One person's giving
Choose anyone on the list — a member, someone without an account, someone archived, or a member who left — and their giving page opens, on the same dates you were looking at. Back returns you to the list exactly as you left it.
From top to bottom, a giving page shows:
- Their name, and a link, Contact details are in the Directory, to their entry there. The giving page holds their giving and nothing else; their phone, email, role and title stay in the Directory.
- The dates, which you can change here too, with Download statement for those dates and Record a gift, which opens Record offering with them already picked.
- What they gave: the total, how many gifts, and their last gift. When your church records pledges and the dates sit inside one year, their pledge for that year is there too.
- By fund, when they gave to more than one fund. The amounts add up to the total.
- Every gift in the dates, newest first. A gift made on your website says Website, a gift matched from a typed name says Recorded as "…", and a cash or check gift recorded as anonymous says Anonymous. Choose any gift to open it, with everything the gift list offers.
- Pledges, once your church records pledges. Edit changes one, and Add a pledge opens Record pledges with them on the first card.
- Statements: these dates, and every other year they gave, each one a PDF to download.
- Matched gifts, when there's something to show: website gifts matched to them automatically by their email, gifts matched to them by hand, and entries merged into this one.
Why a person's total can be more than their row. A giving page counts the way a statement does, so it includes cash or check gifts recorded as anonymous. On the list, those sit on the Anonymous line instead. When that happens, the page says so under the total.
Undoing a match later. Under Matched gifts, Stop matching this email stops matching that email's website gifts to them; they go back to their own Website row on the list. Move back returns gifts matched from a typed name to their Typed name row. Both can be undone from the message that confirms them.
An archived person's page says so, with a link to restore them in the Directory. You can't record new gifts or pledges for them until you do. A member who left has a page too, read only.
Matching gifts to the right person
Two things keep a person's giving in pieces: gifts made on your website carry only the name and email the giver typed, and a typed name can be spelled two ways — one person counts "R. Alvarez," another types "Richard Alvarez." Both show up as their own rows until someone matches them to a person. Nothing makes you do this; the gifts are counted either way. When you want them on a person, choose Match these gifts to… on the row and pick who they belong to:
- From a Typed name row, every gift recorded under that exact name is matched — all dates, not only the ones on screen, because the name is what's being fixed.
- From a Website row, every gift from that email address is matched to them — including future ones, so someone who gives on your website every week is matched once. If a family shares one email, match single gifts instead from the gift list (below).
The picker searches your members and your roster by any word, so typing "R. Alvarez" offers Richard Alvarez. If the person isn't on your list yet, choose Add "…" to the roster to create them with just that name.
When Psalmly spots one likely person — the same email, or the same last name and first initial — the row shows a quiet Looks like …? with a Yes button. It never guesses between two people, and nothing counts or reminds you about unmatched rows.
Every match can be undone from the message that confirms it. Matched gifts also remember where they came from: open one from the gift list and you'll see Recorded as "R. Alvarez" or Given on your website as …, so a match can be traced and fixed by hand later. A person's giving page lists all of it in one place, under Matched gifts.
One website gift at a time. Open the gift from your Recent gifts list and choose Match this gift to… — only that gift is matched. Gifts given in the app can't be matched to anyone else; they belong to the account that gave them.
Two roster entries that are the same person? Open either one and choose Merge into… — see People without an account.
What your members see
A website gift you match to a member appears in that member's own giving history and on their year-end statement, in the app and on the web — exactly as a check you record under their name does.
Statements
- For one person — open their giving page and choose Download statement for the dates you're looking at, or pick another year under Statements.
- For everyone — Statements → Download all statements makes one PDF, a statement for each person who gave in your dates, A–Z, ready to print. Website and typed-name rows aren't people yet, so they don't get one; the menu tells you how many that is before you download.
A statement for a full calendar year keeps its usual title ("2026 Giving"). Any other dates are titled as a period — "Giving statement · January 1 – September 28, 2026" — and never called year-end.
Anonymous gifts on the statements you print. Cash or check gifts marked anonymous stay on the statement you print for that person, as always. Online gifts a member marked anonymous are left off — Psalmly never tells anyone at the church who gave those, and that member's own statement in the app includes them.
Export CSV
Export CSV downloads the whole list for your accountant: one row per person, then Anonymous, Loose plate cash and Total. Columns are Name, Kind, Email, Gifts, Given, one column per fund, Pledged (when pledges show), First gift, Last gift, and a Giver ID. The fund columns add up to Given, so you can answer "does the pledge count only the general fund?" in the spreadsheet. The Giver ID stays the same from one export to the next, so two years line up. Names stay exactly as you entered them — there are no separate first- and last-name columns.
Pledges
If your church collects pledge cards, record them here with Record pledges, and a Pledged column appears beside Given. See Recording pledges. Until your church records its first pledge, that button is the only sign of pledges anywhere.
On a phone
Everything works at phone size. The dates become one button with a menu, the less-used actions move into the ⋯ menu, and each row shows the name and what they gave — tap a row to see the rest, then Open [their name]’s giving for their giving page.
